Swift Charities Employee Assistance Fund

Swift Charities Employee Assistance Program provides a way to assist employees and their dependents who have encountered unusual, unexpected, or long-term financial hardship such as:

  • A death in the family
  • Unusual medical expenses caused by severe illness or accident
  • Uninsured losses caused by fire, crime, flood or other disasters
  • Unusual expenses for the care and training of handicapped dependents

In order to maintain Swift Charities' tax exempt status with the IRS, we can not make employee assistance grants based on hardship related to poor financial planning, unsuccessful personal investments, financial issues related to fluctuations in the economy, lack of freight etc.

How to apply

Step 1: The Swift Employee seeking assistance or individual nominating another employee must be active Swift Transportation employees or dependents.

Step 2: The Swift Employee completes the Application for Employee Assistance.

Step 3: The Swift Employee submits the completed application and pertinent documentation to Swift Charities for review and approval.
All request and grant correspondence is treated as confidential information and will be shared with as few people as possible.

Step 4: The Corporate Review Committee will review and make a determination on the completed application.

Step 5: Corporate Review Committee then communicates with applicants informing them of their determination.

Time Restrictions for Employee Assistance: Applications may be submitted at any time. Completed applications will be reviewed monthly or as situation dictates.

How do I obtain an application?

What is the deadline to apply?

There are no deadlines to apply. Applications for employee assistance funding are reviewed monthly or as the situation dictates.

When will I know if my application has been accepted or not accepted?

In an emergency situation, you can receive confirmation as soon as one week from the time the corporate review committee receives the application. In a situation that is not an emergency, confirmation will be given within one week of the regularly scheduled charities review committee meetings (2nd Thursday of every month).

How can I nominate a co-worker for assistance?

Complete and submit the Employee Assistance Application Form and necessary documentation on their behalf.

What documentation do I need to provide with my application?

· Application form

· Receipts for expenditures (i.e. medical bills)

· Insurance/other estimates of expense

· List of other sources of assistance (i.e. local or federal support organizations)

· Any applicable documentation that you believe will help facilitate the review process

How will I receive funds if my application is accepted?

This will depend on the situation and needs of the Swift employee. Some funds will be mailed to employees directly, others will be paid out to individuals or groups providing the necessary services.

Will I be taxed on funding I receive?

Usually not. This will be determined on an individual basis depending on the situation and the documentation provided.

Can I apply for funds specifically to pay off debts or overdue bills?

Usually not, debts or overdue bills unless they are directly related to a medical hardship would not be an appropriate reason to apply for assistance through this fund. The Employee Assistance fund was put in place to help assist Swift employees during challenging times resulting from an event or events occurring for reasons beyond the individual’s control.

Why does Swift need an employee assistance program?

This program fosters a caring approach that allows us to coordinate our efforts in order to provide assistance to our fellow employees when the need arises.

I don’t have access to a computer or printer, how do I apply?

Request a "Swift Charities Employee Assistance Request Form" from your Driver Manager or Terminal Manager.
